Kindergarten is made up of two classes comprising of 38 students. The students work together as one class in a team teaching situation with Mrs Riddiford and Miss Kidd. Kindergarten settled into school routines quickly and learnt how to show whole body listening so they can be the best learner they can be. They learnt how to sit at their desks and complete tasks, how to hold a pencil and use scissors and how to play cooperatively and work with each other. They learnt how to walk in and line up in two lines and participate in school regular school activities such as assembly, sport and library.
Kindergarten is participating in a new literacy program called SSP this year. They have been learning to hear speech sounds and work out how many there are. They have been learning about the sounds s, a, t, p, i, i, n and writing words that include these sounds in them, such as, 'sat', 'nip', 'pants', 'tap' etc. Kindergarten have been how to read and write simple sentences and texts. Some students have moved from the green level group to the purple level group this term. Well done boys and girls!!
Kindergarten were very excited to be participating in Clean Up Australia Day this year. We collected lots of rubbish from around the school. We discussed how important it is to keep our school tidy, especially being so close to the ocean and are going to make sure our rubbish goes into the bin everyday.
Oz Opera came to visit our school and performed "Hansel & Gretal'. Kindergarten were very excited as they knew the story and some of the songs taught by Mrs Lipman during music lessons.
Kindergarten students had 'the best day!' on Thursday 24 March, celebrating Easter. They arrived at school to find that the Easter Bunny had left his footprints and a basket of eggs for each of them. The students participated in Easter activities throughout the day including learning about how Easter is celebrated around the world, egg and spoon races, making Easter biscuits and making Easter hats. They then had a picnic lunch with their mums and dads. Students then participated in the Easter Hat Parade. And weren't there some fantastic hats!
Students participated in the Cross Country Carnival on Thursday 31 March. They had so much fun running in the race, stretching, playing AFL & NRL drills, egg and spoon races, relay races and games. We were very tired by the end of the day and slept well.
