Thanks to the SRC for our new hats!
Yesterday Room 1 and 2 walked over to the Five Islands Secondary College to cook with the students from the college. Before we left students went to our permaculture garden and picked some herbs, spinach, broad beans and onions to use in our cooking. Students made their own quiches using ingredients from our garden and milkyway racing cars. They turned out great and tasted delicious! A big thank you to the staff and students from the Five Islands Secondary College for having us!
This term room 1 have been learning about floating and sinking during science. Today students worked in groups of 4 to great their own recycled boat, using masking tape and recycled materials. Students had to cooperate and work together to build their boat (some were better at this than others, but it was a great opportunity for students to experience group work and what it is like to work as part of a team).
Was so great to see all the students dressed in red today to support the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. Thank you for the donations! Room 1 and 2 went for a walk to the beach after recess today to enjoy the sunshine and have a walk and play. How lucky are we to have access to a beach right across the road!?
After reading Alexander's Outing by Pamela Allen last week, students created their very own Alexander story about Alexander coming to Port Kembla Public School. In the story by Pamela Allen, Alexander lived with his mother and his brothers and sisters. One day they went for a walk from their duck pond to Hyde Park in Sydney. They walked past various places on the way to the park. Alexander did not listen to his mother and stay close and he fell down a deep hole. Everyone walking past saved Alexander by pouring water down the hole and making Alexander float to the top. Students recreated the story by saying what Alexander walked past while visiting the school.
You can read these below.
Room 1 have been reading Potato People by Pamela Allen this week, which is part of our author study on Pamela Allen. This afternoon students made their very own potato people during art.
Wow, our first week back has gone quickly! It is hard to believe it is term 4 already and all of the students in Room 1 will soon no longer be in kindergarten. We have had a busy start to term 4 and following is a look at our day today.
Today in room 1 we had a special visit from Jack and Harry's new puppies. They were a big hit and so cute!
Room 1 have been lucky enough to have a student teacher join our class and will be with us until the end of week 3. Please say hello and make her feel welcome as you see her.
Today students had fun in science investigating whether objects would float or sink when placed in a tub of water. Students are currently learning about floating and sinking during science and will continue to explore these concepts over coming weeks.
Room 1 have been reading the story of Goldilocks and The Three Bears. Today students turned the story into real life with their very own play. Students worked in groups of 4 to recreate the story. We had props and costumes with handmade masks. All students had a role to play and loved bringing one of their favourite stories to life.
As we have been learning about the story of The Three Little Pigs, the students in room 1 have created their own versions of the story. They are all getting so imaginative with their writing! Check them out...
Our teacher is Mrs Easton. We are a Kindergarten class.
