Yesterday Rooms 1, 2 and 8 went on an excursion to the Aquarium and Wild Life Zoo at Darling Harbour. What a great day, so much fun looking at all the animals and learning interesting facts about some of our native wildlife. Thank you to all the wonderful parents who came along and assisted on the day. Below is a selection of photos i took on the day, once i get more from other teachers and parents i will add them.
Room 1 have been studying the story of The Three Little Pigs throughout the term. We have studied real pigs and wolves and found out lots of interesting facts. Such as, a pig uses mud as a way to cool down and keep insects away. The students found this very interesting (they just thought they rolled in the mud for fun). Today students made their own straw, stick and brick houses during art. We turned these into a display wall. Check out their great work!
Today students in Room 1 worked together to create our very first e-book on the iPad called "The Story of Cinderella" . Students came up with the ideas in the story and I helped type it up with them and take the photos. They were very pleased with the end result. Students then worked in pairs to create some of their own e-books and they all did very well inserting photos and text for their first ever go at it.
Check it out: (Requires an eReader, iPads and Mac will use iBook)
Yesterday students in rooms 1 and 2 visited Warrawong High School for an Education Week performance. Students watched students from other local schools perform songs and dances and sang 'the lion sleeps tonight' and danced to 'kangaroo rock'. All students did a wonderful job! It was great to see so many parents watching the performance.
Thanks for a great day room 1! Students had a great time creating their very own art works during our NAIDOC celebrations today. Here they are with their paintings.
Today students in years k-2 had a visit from Vicki from the Responsible Pet Ownership program. Students learnt about how to care for a dog and how to make the home dog friendly. Students learnt about how to approach an unknown dog (and the correct times to go near an unknown dog (I.e when the dog is with its owner) and how to correctly pat a dog. They learnt how to judge if a dog is feeling happy, scared or angry and how to react in these situations. This was a very valuable program for students to be involved in.
They have a great website with fun interactive games and lessons. There is also information about choosing the right pet for your family and caring for dogs. You can also download the interactive game for your smart phone or iPad.
The website is: www.pets.nsw.gov.au
Welcome back to term 3! I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday. Room 1 had a great day today. Home reading has started again and all students have a new reader to take home and read tonight. Please remember to sign the record card so your child can achieve their reading certificates. Students wrote recounts today about what they did during the holidays. A selection of these have been posted below.
During Term 2, Room 1 participated in the schools permaculture garden. The students were lead by the schools garden ambassadors and taught about what is in the garden, how to care for our garden and general garden facts (for example, about which bugs are good for our garden and which ones aren't). The students planted broad bean seeds and we will continue to observe and care for these as they grow. Room 1 will continue to be involved in the garden during Term 3.
Our teacher is Mrs Easton. We are a Kindergarten class.
