Look at the amazing projects the students (and families) of Room 10 have created as a way of further exploring their study of Gallipoli in WWI. Well done to everyone for your effort in creating something amazing. All classes will be invited to visit Rooms 9 & 10 on Monday March 30 to view the projects and a further reminder that parents are welcome to come and take a look from approximately 2:30pm.
Representatives from the St George Illawarra Dragons visited our school last week as part of their School Blitz campaign. This year's theme is "Healthy Lifestyle and Wellbeing". The campaign is part of the NRL's One Community initiative.
Following a whole school assembly, students in Stage 3 took part in some activities outside (and the Dragons commented on how cool our school caps are).

Welcome to Rooms 9 & 10 in 2015. Both classes are made up of students in Years 5 and 6, with Ms Godfrey in Room 9 and Mr Burke in Room 10.
This promises to be a great year for students, particularly as we celebrate 125 years of public education in Port Kembla. We’d like to let you know about some important things at the beginning of this school year...
Homework is handed out on Monday morning and is due on Friday. We are asking students to have an A4 display folder.
The homework will consist of the main sheet explaining what tasks are to be completed for that week, the spelling sheet and a maths sheet (these will all be stapled together). The simple rule with the homework folder is students should keep it in their school bag at all times, so it is with them on Monday morning and Friday morning.
Students are strongly encouraged to read every night. Reading cards can be kept in a sleeve in the back of the homework folder (another reason students should keep the homework folder in their school bag, so their reading card is always with them). Students have received their reading cards today.
1:1 iPad Program
Last week your child should have received two notes about this program. We ask that you nominate whether your child will be bringing their own iPad to class or will need to use a school iPad (which stays at school.
Personal iPads must be brought into class first thing in the morning and remain there throughout the day until home time (unless taken to another room or outside with a teacher during a lesson).
To participate in the program, the second note which your child received last week must be signed by both a parent / guardian and the student.
We are anticipating a continued uptake of students bringing their own iPads to school. This will enable the program to be sustainable year on year, also allowing us to focus on providing for those that otherwise wouldn’t have access to an iPad of their own.
5 Day Sports Camp at Myuna Bay
This excursion will take place in late Term 4 (when the weather is warm).
New Merit Awards System introduced this year
You will see information in the newsletter explaining the features and implementation of a merit system across the school. We believe this year’s Stage 3 students will be very well placed to lead the way in this systems implementation.
Year 6 Farewell Video
Mr Burke is making an early start to the Year 6 video this year. Could all students please bring in their kindergarten photo to be digitally scanned and returned to them.
If you didn’t purchase a back to school pack through Staples, please bring in to class...
Let’s have a great school year!
From Mr Burke and Ms Godfrey.
