Room 9 were very excited to share their singing and dancing with everyone at this mornings Assembly. They sang 'The Sound of Silence' and danced to 'Umbrella.'
Room 7 are studying the Science unit 'Magnetic Moves' this term. We are exploring how magnets exert a force on certain objects and how that force affects the object. Today we identified some materials that magnets attract and the distance at which they act. Students worked in groups of 3-4, they first had to predict if their object would attract a magnet and then test it. They also had to measure (using a ruler) at what distance the objects reacted to the magnet. We will continue to explore all things magnets through out the term.
Mr Burke's class answer the Running Man challenge. This was part of their assembly item in Term 2, 2016.
Room 10 have been learning about Earthquakes. Check out Mahuni's slideshow explaining Tectonic Plates and how they interact.
During Science this term, we have had the opportunity to explore forces and motion. We have been learning about different forces and their effects on objects.
In this lesson we worked in teams to push a heavy object across different surfaces to investigate the friction force between the surfaces. First we made predictions, then after investigating we discussed and recorded our results. We learnt that a friction force acts between two surfaces in contact producing grip and reducing movement.
Room 7 have been working hard during Art. To go with our book "Fantastic Mr Fox" by Roald Dahl students have created their very own fox incorporating the fauvism style of painting. They all did a wonderful job!
It's been a very busy Term 1 so far in Room 10!
We have been learning all about "Australia As A Nation". This is our history unit for Terms 1 & 2. We're becoming experts on the Westminster System. Ask us some questions like:
In our science unit this term we're learning all about Earthquakes. Ask us what the richter scale is and how many times bigger is an Earthquake of 3.0 on the richter scale compared to a 2.0?
George's Marvellous Medicine:
We love Roald Dahl. Who doesn't?! We also love Quentin Blake. We're reading George's Marvellous Medicine and looking at the writing skills of Roald Dahl. We're also working on sketches in the style of Quentin Blake... we even tuned in to a video of Mr Blake showing how he brings Roald Dahl's characters to life.
Room 10 students have been trialling the new Chromebooks. Each student has their own Chromebook and soon the rest of Years 5 & 6 will have a Chromebook too because we worked hard to prove they were very good for classrooms!
COMING UP in our assembly item...
Even though it isn't until next term, we've already decided on one thing we're going to showcase at the assembly... just ask us when decimal currency was introduced and we'll answer (to tune of 'click goes the shears') THE 14TH OF FEBRUARY 1966.
We're all happy little learners in Room 10!
